Introduction

The purpose of this educational site is not to emphasize the the Holy Spirit above God the Father or Jesus Christ the Son of God but to learn about the Holy Spirit who the Father has sent.   Understanding the work of the Holy Spirit is an understanding of the work of Jesus Christ and ultimately an understanding of the will and work of God the Father.

Who is the Holy Spirit

Matthew 28:19

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

1 John 5:7

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. (Jesus the Son is the Word, see John 1:1-14 )  KJV

The Holy Spirit, also referred to as the Spirit of God,  is an eternal being that co-exists with God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son of God.  All three are eternal beings separate and distinct from each other but one in unity and essence of deity. The Holy Spirit is seen throughout the Bible starting in the first book in Gen 1:2 and in the last book in Revelations 22:17

1 Corinthians 12:4-6
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in a
ll.

We see from scripture that the will of God the Father in this age is being carried out by Jesus Christ His Son.  This began when Jesus, the Word, was sent by the Father to earth and made flesh John 1:14,  His purpose is to do the Fathers will , John 5:30.   The principal purpose of the Father in sending His Son was to make atonement for man's sin so man could be reconciled back to God.   When this work of Christ was finished on earth He ascended to the right hand of the Father at which time the Father placed all things under His feet to accomplish the further purpose of God on earth. See Ephesians 1:19-23 and 1 Corinthians 15: 24-28.   When Jesus Christ was exalted at the right hand of God the Father He was given, by the Father, the promise of the Holy Spirit. From this time forward Jesus Christ became the giver of the Fathers Gift to men and women, or as John the Baptist   said, "....He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost"  See Acts 2:33 & 38, and Matthew 3:16. In addition to this, the Holy Spirit has been sent by the Father to assist Jesus Christ in carrying out the Fathers will.

John 16:13-15
13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
14 He will bring glory to me (Jesus Christ) by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.
15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.
(NIV)

In summary we could say

"The work of God the Father through Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit"

The Promise of the Holy Spirit

Luke 24:49 (Jesus speaking)

And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

Acts 1:4-5

4          And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

5          For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
